Meet My 7 Dogs

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love dogs in general, but especially MY dogs! Shortly after moving to South Africa I started volunteering for charity organizations who focus on improving a dogs life around here! I started fostering small pups and luckily I live on a wine farm with lots of space because I'm now the proud owner of 7 large/giant breed rescues!

Diemos:
She's our oldie, but goodie! She's 14, but still keeps all the young doggies in line. Diemos was found half starved sitting on the side of the road. She's now a very happy, healthy old lady who's going strong!

Yum Yum:
He's our big old teddy bear weighing in at over 60kgs!  He gets his name because of the size of his mouth, but also because he's the same color as Yum Yum Peanut Butter!  Yum Yum was dropped at the bet to be put to sleep, but we of course couldn't let that happen.  He's had horrible arthritis and hip dysplasia since he was a puppy and the vet only predicted he'd live to be about 4 years old and he's now 9!!

Riley:
He's just 4 years old and came from the SPCA.  He was so sick as as puppy that the vet kept recommending that we put him down, but we refused.   After a lot of tears and breaking the bank, he's now the sweetest, gentlest, happiest, healthiest guy you'll ever meet!  Riley's favorite past time is to chase a ball or a stick and trust me when I say you'll tire of it long before he ever does :)

Potato:
She was given her name because she literally looked like a Potato when she was small.  I found her 2 years ago hiding under a house when she was about 3 weeks old. She was the only survivor of her litter and her Mom was trying to kill her because she was starved herself.  She was full of bite marks and a skeleton, but the vet said she stood a chance so we tried!  When we first fed her she bloated up like a balloon and therefore looked like a Potato.  With a bit of food and love she quickly recovered and has become the most beautiful dog!  She never leaves my side and can always be found laying on my feet!

Zulu:
2 years ago I found poor Zulu curled up in a smoldering fire trying to stay warm.  She was about 4-5 months old, so starved she could barely walk, and she was covered in big pussy sores.  I rushed her to the vet sure that they would tell me it was too late to save her, but I was wrong.  They said with some food, daily baths, antibiotics (for the tick bite fever) and a lot of patience and love that she stood a fighting chance!  Today Zulu is a stunning, strong, healthy dog who thinks she's a lap dog :)

Fluff:
She was our 1st foster pup for PETS Empowerment.  She was bottle fed by another PETS volunteer and came to me when she was about 5 weeks old.  We were supposed to feed her up until she was strong, healthy and ready to go to a new home, but we fell so in love with her and couldn't let her go.  She's now just a year old and the happiest, go-lucky dog you'll ever meet! She spends half her life upside down or on Andrew's lap!

Rosie:
This big ham was meant to be our dog.  Rosie was also a foster pup who had a lot of families wanting to adopt her.  Just before she was of age to be able to go to her new home she came down with Parvo.  No one thought she would make it and everyone kept telling me to put her down, but I refused.  There was just something that told me that she wanted to be here and that I should fight for her ... so I did!  After spending 14 days at the vet with her, administering homeopathic meds (against the Vets wishes) and basically grasping at every straw I could she pulled through!  Luckily her new home backed out because after that I could have never let her go anyway!  She's now almost a year old, a very healthy, happy dog, and the love of my life! She also spends her life upside down or burying her head in my chest!
